چکیده
Congenital amputation of a limb is a rare birth defect characterized by failure of formation of the terminal part of an extremity. Also known as congenital transverse deficiency, this condition is thought to be due to mechanical disruption of a developed limb rather than a congenital malformation.1 It can affect one or more limbs2 and an upper limb deformity is more commonly seen.3 We present here a case of congenital amputation of foot as clinical quiz to briefly highlight the clinical features of this rare birth defect and its etiology and management. A 2-month old male child was brought to our outpatient department with the complaints of absent left foot and toes since birth. He was the first child of non-consanguineous parents born at term by an uneventful vaginal delivery. Although the mother did not attend regular antenatal checkups, there was no history of fever with rashes, drug intake or exposure to radiation during pregnancy. Clinical examination revealed absent forefoot and midfoot with rudimentary toe buds. It looked like a surgical partial foot amputation (Figure 1). There was no evidence of congenital constriction bands or limb length discrepancy, and rest of the skeletal survey was normal. Examination of the chest, abdomen and cardiovascular system were normal. Radiographic examination showed normal tibia and fibula with absence of all the bones of left foot except talus and few rudimentary bones (Figure 2).

Treatment of the Mirror Foot with Central Ray Resection: Report of 2 Cases
The mirror foot is a rare congenital foot anomaly which is often associated with 6- to 8-toed polydactyly. Postaxial polydactyly is the most common form of this anomaly, while central polydactyly is seen infrequently. We report on 2 cases of the central mirror-foot anomaly. Calcaneus duplication and fibular hypoplasia were present in 1 case. We treated both patients by resecting the middle foot...

متن کاملComparing the Effect of New Silicone Foot Prosthesis and Conventional Foot Prosthesis on Plantar Pressure in Diabetic Patients With Transmetatarsal Amputation
Objective Diabetic foot ulcers are significant complications of diabetes that can lead to amputation. Partial foot prostheses can be used to redistribute the plantar pressure on the residual limb to alleviate local pressures and prevent re-amputation at more proximal levels. The current study aimed to describe the fabrication of an original silicone foot prosthesis designed for a diabetic patie...
متن کاملReconstruction of Mirror Foot with Dysplastic Tibia
INTRODUCTION The Mirror foot is a rare congenital anomaly associated with duplication of the structures of the foot. Verghese et al have classified these feet into three types. Type three is associated with a Dysplastic tibia of which only 5 have been reported. Surgical management has been reported in only two of these five cases which are in the form of amputation. CASE REPORT We would like ...
